El Yunque Rainforest Engagement Session

I am so excited for you to see Airelle and Javon’s engagement session at the El Yunque Rainforest!!! These two were adventurous and fun! You’ll notice their engagement session looks a little different than most of my work for a couple of reasons that I’ll be talking about in today’s blog. I’ll also share the travel and adventure that come along with photographing at El Yunque. My First Time Photographing at El Yunque Rainforest

First reason why you’ll notice this engagement session looks different than others is because it’s at a new location for me! I have visited El Yunque many times since moving to Puerto Rico. I would definitely say that it’s a “must see” when you visit the island. However this was my first time photographing an engagement session at El Yunque. With its lush greenery and cascading waterfalls, it’s truly a dream location for any photographer! El Yunque is a great location for any fun and adventurous couple like Airelle and Javon.

The Journey: Travel and Adventure

If you’re staying in San Juan, simply getting to El Yunque is part of the adventure! Travel to El Yunque is a scenic 45-50 minute drive with winding roads and beautiful views. To avoid the crowds, we started our session early in the morning at 8am, right when the park opens. Once we got there, we took a short hike to our backdrop, a beautiful waterfall. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, there’s also fun in getting in the cold rainforest water!

Different Light

Photographing at El Yunque means photographing in different light. What do I mean by that? Well, El Yunque has lots of tall trees and clouds/rain. Add those two things together and you get: darkness. Ok, I’m being dramatic! Not darkness, BUT it is darker once you’re in the rainforest. Since I’m photographing in different light, you’ll notice that this engagement session isn’t as bright as all my others, but I love it. It makes your photos feel romantic and a little dramatic.
